Pilot plant for novel TencelWeb™ nonwoven fabrics

Lenzing makes the first major step in the joint development work with Weyerhaeuser with the commissioning of an Austrian based pilot plant that will explore the commercial potential of TencelWeb™.

TencelWeb™ is a new technology to produce nonwoven fabrics directly from lyocell - without intermediate process steps. The process is based upon meltblown technology but uses a raw material made from renewable wood. This makes TencelWeb™ a sustainable alternative to petroleum-based nonwovens.

The TencelWeb™ market development is aimed at personal care, hygiene and technical applications. Nonwovens made from TencelWeb™ will combine functionality with environmental responsibility.

TENCEL® - The flushable fiber

Lenzing fibers are not only convenient in use but also easy to dispose: After use, wipes made of TENCEL® Short Cut can be flushed in the toilet.

TENCEL® Short Cut makes wipes flushable since they disperse easily in water.

Lenzing has tested its fibers for disperabilty according to the EDANA/INDA flushablity guidelines and can also confirm biodegradability to the ASTM D6400 standard.

Management change

Wolfgang Plasser has been appointed Vice President Nonwoven Fibers. As former managing director of Lenzing Plastics he takes over the Business Unit Nonwovens on 1st July 2009.

Robert Gregan has relinquished his role as Vice President Nonwoven Fibers in order to take up a new position outside the Lenzing Group.
