Dear Readers,

Since I’ve taken over the management of Lenzing’s Business Unit Nonwovens in July our team has successfully met various challenges: A rather slow beginning to the year was followed by a rapid rise in demand as of the third quarter. Hence, we were not always able to meet our usual high standard for on-time deliveries. However we continue to give our best efforts to improve in 2010.

I would like to thank both our customers and employees for their understanding and good co-operation which have enabled us to cope even during tough times. Currently we focus on increasing the fiber capacity of multiple Lenzing production sites.

Highlights in the year 2009

  • We have successfully started-up a pilot plant for the production of TencelWeb®. In co-operation with Weyerhaeuser we are now optimizing the manufacture of cellulosic nonwovens using this novel technology.
  • In August Costco has chosen TENCEL® for its „Kirkland Signature Baby Wipes“. By using the TENCEL® brand, Costco communicates this commitment to its customers and thereby shows: The fiber matters.

After my eventful entrance into the nonwovens business I’m looking forward to continuing the good co-operation in 2010. I wish you a peaceful Christmas and a Happy New Year full of luck, health and prosperity!


Top results for Business Unit Nonwovens

Business Unit Nonwovens conducted a satisfaction survey among European key customers in summer.

The most important results of the Online-Survey are:

  • 70% of the participants rate their relationship to BU Nonwovens as „excellent“ or „very good“. Another 26% evaluate this partnership as „good“. These top-results are being reflected by the duration of the co-operation: Every second participant works with us for more than 10 years.
  • Environmental topics have top priority within the nonwovens industry: 94% of our customers consider the protection of the environment as “very important” or “important”.
  • More than 90% of the participants evaluate Lenzing’s leadership in innovation and technology as “very important” or “important”.

We will repeat this survey regularly on a worldwide basis to maintain the great level of satisfaction among our customers and to define ways how to even improve it.

Jacob Holm acquires FSC label based on TENCEL®

Jacob Holm acquires FSC label based on TENCEL®

Jacob Holm Industries was awarded with the FSC label for nonwoven fabrics. 

This chain of custody certification is the next link in the chain following on from Lenzing’s certification for TENCEL® fibers from Grimsby.

FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certifies products that are derived from responsibly managed forests.

Increase of production capacity

The Lenzing Group has recently decided on an extension of the pulp production in Lenzing as well as on a further extension of fiber production in Heiligenkreuz (both sites are located in Austria). Beyond this, the TENCEL® site at Grimsby will be remodeled. Furthermore, the fourth production line of our Indonesian subsidiary PT South Pacific Viscose will go operational in a couple of weeks.

Successful debut at Filtration 2009

The debut at Filtration was satisfying for the Business Unit Nonwovens since the interest in Lenzing Fibers for filter applications was high. The Filtration Show is the most important US-fair in this segment and provided us with an ideal platform to network with existing customers and to establish new relationships.
